Decades of Expertise: Fen Laird and Frontenac Build and Design

Frontenac Build and Design was founded by Fen Laird. Hailing from a lineage of skilled carpenters, cabinetmakers, and house builders, Fen's journey in carpentry began in 1975 with a framing crew in Oshawa and Peterborough.

In 1985, Fen earned full licensure from the Ontario Ministry of Skills Development, marking a milestone in his journeyman career. His work took him to Barrie in the '80s and Kingston in the early '90s, where he established Frontenac Build and Design in 2000.

Fen's unwavering commitment, meticulous attention to detail, and client-focused approach have earned the trust of numerous repeat customers who value his dedication to excellence, integrity, and ethical business practices.

Continuing education has resulted in our being the first Passive House (PHIUS) builder in the Kingston area. We maintain our Tarion builder and OBC registered designer status with yearly renewals.

In loving memory of Walter Radage who married my grandmother in 1961 several years after my grandfather's passing. He was an inspiration and role model of what a carpenter and cabinetmaker should aspire too. He is pictured here in MacLachlan Lumber's shop in Kingston, Ontario, where he was the foreman throughout his working career. I have many fond memories of all his help and support with my childhood woodworking projects and his taking me for visits to the Kingston Sea Cadets schooner where he spent many hours helping restore alongside his employer, Sandy MacLachlan.
